Due to new
legislation wild animals can no longer be re-located by the Animal Control
Officer (ACO). If you have a wild animal problem please call the Buena Vista
Police Department and the ACO will assist you by reviewing your options. |

The Animal Control
Officer (ACO) is the City's chosen representative responsible for enforcing
state and local ordinances associated with domestic and wild animals. He
serves the citizens of our city by addressing their animal control concerns
in a number of ways. |
- He is responsible for
collecting stray animals and transporting them to the animal shelter, where they
can be recovered by their owners.
- He
maintains a list of registered pets living within our city limits.
- He ensures all domestic
pets are vaccinated and treated with proper care by their owners.
- He offers advice and
information to owners with questions of breed size and care needs.
>All animal bites are
reported to the ACO who then investigates the incident.
- He offers advice on preventing wild animal problems from occurring.
The Animal Control Officer responds to a wide variety of calls to include but
not limited to: abandoned pets, rabid animals, birds in the chimney, and bears
in the trees. He patrols Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and
can be reached in an emergency by dialing 911 or for non-emergency needs by
dialing 261-6172 ext. 30.
