Animal Control
Due to new legislation wild animals can no longer be re-located by the Animal Control Officer (ACO).  If you have a wild animal problem please call the Buena Vista Police Department and the ACO will assist you by reviewing your options.

The Animal Control Officer (ACO) is the City's chosen representative responsible for enforcing state and local ordinances associated with domestic and wild animals.  He serves the citizens of our city by addressing their animal control concerns in a number of ways.
  • He is responsible for collecting stray animals and transporting them to the animal shelter, where they can be recovered by their owners.
  • He maintains a list of registered pets living within our city limits.
  • He ensures all domestic pets are vaccinated and treated with proper care by their owners.
  • He offers advice and information to owners with questions of breed size and care needs. >All animal bites are reported to the ACO who then investigates the incident.
  • He offers advice on preventing wild animal problems from occurring.

The Animal Control Officer responds to a wide variety of calls to include but not limited to: abandoned pets, rabid animals, birds in the chimney, and bears in the trees.  He patrols Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and can be reached in an emergency by dialing 911 or for non-emergency needs by dialing 261-6172 ext. 30.
