Voter Registration / Information

    New residents to the City may register to vote at the office of the General Registrar on the 1st floor of the Municipal Building at 2039 Sycamore Avenue. Registration forms are also available at government agencies such as US Post Offices, all libraries, the Division of Motor Vehicles, and Social Services offices. Citizens may register to vote any time of the year except 29 days before an election. You must be 18 years old by the election date to be eligible to vote in that election. Absentee Voting

If you will be absent from the City on Election Day or are physically unable to vote in person and wish to vote by absentee ballot, you must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Student away at school and spouse
  • Out of town on business
  • Out of town on personal business or vacation
  • Unable to go to polls because of physical disability or illness
  • Primary caretaker of a confined family member
  • Awaiting trial and under confinement
  • Serving time for misdemeanor conviction
  • Electoral Board member, Registrar, or Officer of Election
  • Religious obligation
  • Active duty of the U. S. Armed Forces or Merchant Marine and spouse or dependents
  • Employed in business outside the continental U. S. and spouse or dependents

You may vote by absentee in person or by mail:

  • To vote in person: come to our office and complete the absentee ballot application. If qualified, and the ballots are ready, you may vote at that time.
  • To vote by mail or to request an absentee ballot application: call, write, fax, or e-mail our office.
  • You must submit an absentee ballot application for each election in which you wish to vote.
