The Sheriff is a State Constitutional Officer elected every 4 years by the Citizens.  Buena Vista's current Sheriff, Randy Hamilton, was first appointed to office in 1996 to fill an un-expired term.  He has since been reelected in 2005.  The next election of this office will be in 2009.

    The main duties of the Sheriff's Office is serving civil processes, courtroom security, and transportation of inmates.  The Sheriff and deputies also have law enforcement rights and can make an arrest if necessary.

    Currently, our Sheriff's office consists of 2 full-time and 5 part time employees.
